Black Stars goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, was spotted seated in a public transport vehicle, locally known as a “trotro,” while commuting to a destination.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Asare was seated in the front seat, wearing a black shirt.

The video caught the attention of football fans on social media, following Asare’s impressive performances in the two matches Ghana played in the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where he kept clean sheets.

The Black Stars defeated Chad 5-0 on March 21, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium and secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Madagascar on March 25, 2025.

After six matches played, Ghana lead Group I with 15 points, followed by Comoros with 12 points, while Madagascar lie in third position with 10 points.

Some football fans were shocked as to why the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper resorted to taking a public transport vehicle despite the money he earns from playing for the Black Stars.

Others, however, jumped to his defense, stating that the player decides how he will manage his finances to sustain himself and his family, and hence the public cannot coerce him to live a luxurious lifestyle to please them.

Read some of the comments below:

he was likely extorted for a share of his earnings from the national team, or he had to “settle” officials to avoid being benched. Given the politics within Ghanaian football, it’s possible he had to pay off someone high up in the GFA to keep his spot because, despite his talent,
