Renowned Ghanaian Highlife musician, Amandzeba Nat Brew has described the late traditional music icon Naa Amanua Dodoo as a personification of the arts and culture of Ghana.

According to him, Naa Amanua had been a source of inspiration to not just him but dozens of other musicians in the country.

“She was phenomenal and exemplary. You would appreciate the fact that just a few of our women try to sustain their trade in music due to factors beyond their control… You can never hold any ceremony without music.

“So that spirit alone she kept as a flame simply made her an embodiment of music, arts, and culture because those of us who were not even born… So she is not just a deserving artiste to be accoladed but I am telling you anytime I encounter her I salute her,” he said in a conversation with GhanaWeb TV.

Amandzeba added that the late icon’s passing will be felt by every Ghanaian for years to come and bemoaned the tendency for Ghanaians to only celebrate their heroes after they are gone.

“We are talking about a real Ghanaian with an African soul. When people see this on TV and hear it is all about Naa Amanua some will break down and cry because she is loved by everybody.

“We have a habit of losing something before we cherish it but I would not wait for that time,” he added.

He further hinted at using a phone conversation he had with the late Naa Amanua in one of his songs, stating, “I have a voice recording on my phone about a conversation we have had and I am going to put it in my music because I cherish it.”

Naa Amanua, the legendary Ghanaian Ga musician and former lead singer of Wulomei, passed away on December 16, 2024.

She was widely celebrated for her powerful voice and contributions to traditional Ga music.

Her burial took place on March 29, 2025, in Accra, with a well-attended funeral ceremony at the forecourt of the State House.

The event brought together family, musicians, cultural icons, and dignitaries who paid their last respects.
