Stakeholders in Ghana’s boxing industry including boxers, coaches, referees, medics, promoters, managers, matchmakers, and fans gathered at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, for a high-level seminar aimed at advancing the sport.

The event, organised by Ace Power Promotions, focused on professionalism, ethics, and sustainable growth in Ghanaian boxing.

Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President Abraham Neequaye reaffirmed Ghana’s reputation as a boxing powerhouse and assured attendees that efforts were being made to enhance security and safety at boxing events.

He urged boxers to educate their fans against violence and hooliganism, which tarnish the sport’s image.

“Such actions damage the reputation of the industry,” he stated.

The seminar featured both in-person and virtual participation, with renowned speakers from Ghana and the United States providing key insights into the business, legal, and technical aspects of boxing.

Gabriel Blinder, CEO of Critical Sports Entertainment (USA), delved into the legal framework of boxing, covering rule enforcement, scoring criteria, fighter safety, referee and judge responsibilities, and conflict resolution.

He emphasised that referees and judges play a pivotal role in maintaining the sport’s integrity.

Dr. Addae-Opoku Amoako, founder of Ace Power Promotions, called for greater support for local boxers.

According to him, Ghana is home to many talented fighters, and with the necessary backing, the country could rank among the top nations in professional boxing.

Renowned boxing trainer Andre Rozier highlighted the technical and physical demands of the sport, focusing on fundamental techniques, conditioning, tactical training, nutrition, and ethical conduct.

He advised, “The jab is everything, use it.”

Former IBF Bantamweight Champion Joseph Agbeko encouraged fighters to embrace challenges to reach the sport’s highest levels.

Former WBO Super Bantamweight Champion Isaac Dogboe educated attendees on boxing contracts, outlining key dos and don’ts for fighters, while ex-world champion Richard Commey focused on technical conditioning and adaptability, noting that some boxers struggle to adopt new techniques.
