Saint-Étienne has suffered a major blow as Ghanaian forward Augustine Boakye will miss the rest of the season after undergoing ankle surgery during the international break.

Boakye sustained the injury during training earlier this week, adding to an already challenging period for both him and his teammates.

He had started the year in impressive form, netting three goals in January, including a brace against Reims and a stunning strike against Nantes. However, his performances had dipped recently, resulting in him being benched for Saint-Étienne’s last two league games against Le Havre and Montpellier.

Head coach Eirik Horneland confirmed the unfortunate news on Thursday, March 27, 2025, just days before their crucial Ligue 1 clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

“He had ankle surgery during this break,” Horneland stated.

The 24-year-old joined the French club at the start of the 2024/25 season following an impressive spell with Wolfsberger AC in the Austrian Bundesliga, where he scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 27 league appearances.
