The legal representative of former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, has raised concerns over a violation of his client’s rights following his recent arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

According to Samuel Atta Akyea, Adu-Boahene was apprehended on March 20, 2025, while his wife, Angela Boateng, was detained the following day after voluntarily visiting EOCO to check on her husband.

“A common thief will run away after her husband has been arrested. She will not walk into harm’s way. They have since been incarcerated,” Atta Akyea stated.

    Violation of Lawyer-Client Confidentiality?

Atta Akyea revealed that EOCO had restricted his access to his clients, insisting that prosecutors be present during legal discussions—a condition he strongly objected to.

“They said no, they will not permit me to interrogate them unless they [prosecutors] are seated in the interrogation. So I violated the lawyer-client confidentiality. I told them, No, I will not do that,” he asserted.

He attempted to escalate the matter with EOCO’s leadership but was shocked to learn that Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine was already addressing the media, publicly accusing Adu-Boahene of wrongdoing before any formal charges were filed.

“While I was in their boss’s conference room, the press conference started, in which the Attorney General was crucifying the innocent before they were pronounced guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction,” he said.

$7 Million Cyber Defense System Allegations

At the press briefing, Dr. Ayine alleged that Adu-Boahene had misappropriated $7 million, which was intended for a cyber defense system contract but was allegedly diverted into his private account.

As investigations continue, Adu-Boahene and his wife remain in EOCO custody. Their legal team is expected to challenge the terms of their detention and demand full legal representation rights.
