Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has described the National Security operatives’ raid on former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr Ernest Addison’s home as shameful and regressive.

In the view of the legal expert, officials of the state should always respect the dignity and rights of suspects or persons of interest when discharging their duties.

Speaking on TV3’s ‘Key Points’ on March 22, 2025, Martin Kpebu stated that such misconduct by state agencies casts a stain on Ghana’s nascent democracy.

His remarks follow criticism against National Security operatives for raiding Dr Addison’s residence on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

The Minority in Parliament subsequently accused National Security operatives of stealing money and pieces of jewellery belonging to Dr Addison’s wife.

“The National Security should know that now citizens are more informed and will question every move they make.

“Gone are the days when people saw them as super police and they could do whatever they like and go free. Now citizens are wide awake,” he added.

Martin Kpebu further stated that the security operatives, led by Richard Jakpa, a former military officer, should strive to avoid controversies and cease intimidating suspects.

“Few months ago, we were sitting in this same studio defending Richard Jakpa because we thought the government through the Attorney General was persecuting him at the time.

“So, he should be the first person to respect the rights and dignity of people, now that he is in office. We want to practice civilised democracy. So they should stop doing things that would embarrass all of us,” he added.
