A former Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Edward Michael Ennin, has called for the summoning of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the disciplinary committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He expressed the view that the former president allegedly orchestrated the removal of key figures from the party, including Paul Afoko, a former national chairman, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former general secretary.

Speaking on Asempa FM on Saturday, March 22, 2025, Ennin stated that Akufo-Addo should be the one summoned before the committee for investigation and possible punishment regarding how these individuals were removed from the party, rather than the party attempting to silence disgruntled members.

“Is this not the same party where some of the leaders like Akufo-Addo orchestrated the sacking of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong? The manner in which they sacked these people wasn’t right but why haven’t they addressed that issue? They should also summon Akufo-Addo to the disciplinary committee to answer for how they used the constitution to sack these people. The way they sacked them was it right?” he lamented.

The former lawmaker expressed regret over the loss of some founding and prominent figures from the party.

He urged the party leadership to rise above greediness and avoid causing pain to its members in their efforts to serve and remain loyal to an individual.

He stated that such actions could further deepen the divisions within the party and drive more people away.

“No one is bigger in the party than others. Today we have lost all our leaders. The likes of Wereko-Brobbey and Kwame Mpianim toiled for this party but because of Akufo-Addo, all these people have been driven away from the party. Are we serving one person or what?”.

Edward Ennin was making a submission regarding the NPP’s decision to refer the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to the disciplinary committee for what the party describes as exhibiting anti-party conduct.

Meanwhile, Paul Afoko, who served as the NPP’s national chairman from April 2014, faced suspension in October 2015 alongside General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong and Second Vice Chairperson Sammy Crabbe.

The party cited actions deemed detrimental to its political fortunes as the reason for their suspension.
