Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus has dropped the iconic number 10 jersey in favor of his original number 20. Since making his debut for the Black Stars, the midfielder has worn the number 20 shirt.

However, during Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan, the West Ham midfielder, after being named captain of the team, opted for the iconic number 10 jersey.

The decision drew significant criticism from fans, who believed Kudus’ poor performances in those two games were linked to his choice of the number 10 jersey. Many called for him to return to his previous number.

Instead, Kudus continued to wear the number 10 for the last qualifying round games against Angola and Niger, where the Black Stars drew 1–1 and lost 2–1, respectively.

Surprisingly, ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025, Kudus was spotted on the pitch wearing his old number 20 jersey once again.

Following Madagascar’s victory over the Central African Republic on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and Mali’s victory over Comoros on Thursday, March 20, 2025, Ghana—currently leading in the first half of the game—could go top of the standings with a win against Chad.
