Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana rushed out of his box to give his teammate Bryan Mbeumo instructions as the forward prepared to take a free kick.
The four-time Africa Cup of Nations champions faced a spirited Eswatini side on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Although Eswatini had lost all four of their qualifying games, they gave the Indomitable Lions a tough challenge, as the match ended in a goalless draw.
With Cameroon pushing for a win, they earned a free kick just meters from Eswatini’s penalty box. As Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo stepped up to take it, André Onana sprinted from his half to offer last-minute advice on how to execute the set piece.
Unfortunately for Onana, his instructions didn’t yield the desired result, as Mbeumo failed to convert the free kick. Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time the shot-stopper had done something similar.
The Manchester United goalkeeper performed a similar act back in January 2025 during a match against Fulham, where he rushed out to give instructions to Bruno Fernandes.
The draw means Cameroon now occupies second place in their group standings with 9 points. However, they could drop to third if Libya secures a win against Angola on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
