Kojo Blak’s hit song ‘Excellent’ failed to secure a nomination for the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) due to its late release and limited attention within the eligibility period, according to Robert Klah, Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse.

Speaking on Hitz FM, Robert Klah, explained that the song, which features Kelvyn Boy, was released towards the end of the eligibility window, from January 1 to December 31, 2024, and did not gain enough attention within that timeframe to compete with other nominated tracks.

“If you release a song and we have a deadline for the year under review, and after two weeks it hasn’t gained enough airplay, publicity, or streams, it means other songs in that category will have an advantage over it,” he said.

He further emphasised that timing plays a crucial role in the selection process, noting that ‘Excellent’ only became a hit song in 2025.

“By December 31, how did it perform compared to other songs in the same category? That’s the key consideration,” he stated.

One would recall that Kelvyn Boy took to his X page and call out Charterhouse for what he described as their habit of engaging in actions that often put them in the negative spotlight during the VGMA season.

He made these statements while questioning why ‘Excellent’ had not received any nominations at the 2025 TGMAs.

Meanwhile, strong allegations have been levelled against board members of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ Snub and the allegations against TGMAs

The TGMA board has been accused of engaging in corrupt practices that influence nominations and awards.

Entertainment pundit, Nana Ziega, along with many other industry stakeholders, made this claim and stated that there is a culture of favouritism and corruption behind the scenes.

He analysed how these practices have now led to the exclusion of King Paluta’s hit song ‘Makoma’ from key categories on the nomination list.
