This is the heartbreaking moment a grief-stricken dog jumped into its dead owner’s coffin for a last goodbye at the funeral.
Footage taken at a funeral in Mexico shows the poor pooch looking anxious as he stands by the the base of his owner’s open casket.
After deliberating a moment, the grieving dog hops up onto the coffin and settles down inside next to its dead owner.
One local said: ‘He had to go up on his own because no one helped him, they just filmed it as usual.’
Another said: ‘Dogs understand everything’, while a third added: ‘The pooch was asking to be picked up to say his last goodbye.’
‘This is heartbreaking, I hope someone takes good care of him now his owner has passed’, another onlooker said.
This is not the only time a devastated dog has been seen saying its final goodbye to its bereaved owner.
Back in 2019 a loyal dog in the Peruvian capital of Lima was filmed refusing to leave the side of its owner’s open coffin.

In the video, the faithful companion can be seen with its paws on its master’s white coffin as a woman behind tries to move it away.
However, the dog does not want to leave – and keeps its paws on the casket.
The video was widely shared on social media at the time, with people left heartbroken by the scene.
Carol Elizabeth Jauregui Castillo said: ‘They live every joy and every sadness with us… so loyal…so sad.’

In another instance in 2016, a grieving puppy in Chile refused to move from its master’s side after the man was run over and killed.
The puppy, called Doki, was pictured by emergency crews who were called to the scene of a fatality by the side of a road in the city of Concepción.
Images show the heartbroken animal lying down next to the body of 23-year-old Leonardo Valdes – even after his corpse had been covered with a plastic sheet.
Emergency crews were so moved by the loyalty of the animal that they posted pictures on their Facebook page and wrote: ‘The puppy of the deceased remained in place until the body was removed.’
The pictures were widely shared while many responded to the post by offering their condolences – and commenting on the loyalty of the man’s puppy.
Rosa Arzola said: ‘I can not contain my sadness for the person, but seeing the face of that poor puppy I feel a great pain in my soul.’
Another Facebook user added: ‘This is a true story of love and loyalty. Such loving from this puppy and genuine sorrow for his owner – rest in peace.’
