Kelvin Lamptey-Mills is set to ditch the United States for the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, despite holding U.S. citizenship.

He is determined to reach the highest level and represent Ghana on the international stage.

Mills has already played for Ghana’s U-23 team (Black Meteors) but is eager for more, remaining committed to donning the Black Stars jersey.

The 19-year-old is prioritizing a call-up to the Black Stars over the U.S. national team, even though the U.S. Soccer Federation is monitoring his progress.

Born in Ghana but raised in the United States, the young center-back has built a promising career. He played in MLS Next Pro before making a move to Cyprus last month.

He recently joined MEAP Nisou from Omonia, continuing his development in European football.

Speaking in an interview with Kolog Bonaventure, Lamptey-Mills reaffirmed his desire to play for Ghana and contribute to the national team’s success.

He insisted that if both Ghana and the U.S. approached him, he would choose the country of his parents—Ghana.

“Ghana needs to qualify for the World Cup again. And if I get an invite to help the cause, why not?”

“We all have something to offer the national team. It’s just about confidence and getting the invite. If I’m called, I will serve my country. It would be a dream come true to place my hand on the badge.”

“I’m not desperate, but it would be my pride to represent my mother and grandmother”

His manager, Benny Asharifi, also expressed confidence in his abilities:

“I trust Lamptey, and I know his qualities as a defender. He has a bright future.”

Mills has yet to feature for MEAP Nisou, but the club’s technical staff has spoken highly of his potential, tipping him to become a key member of the squad.
