President John Dramani Mahama has expressed appreciation for the accomplishments and service of former Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare, during his tenure.

Addressing a delegation of high-ranking police officers at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, President Mahama acknowledged Dampare’s significant contributions to the country’s national security.

He emphasised that the former IGP’s work will remain recorded in the history of the police service and will not be forgotten.

“Let me take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude to the outgoing Inspector General of Police. He has served our nation with dedication and commitment, and his contributions to law enforcement and national security will not be forgotten. We thank him for his service and wish him well in his future endeavors,” he said.

President Mahama urged police personnel to work closely with their new leader, COP Tetteh Yohuno, to ensure the effective and efficient functioning of the police service.

He referred to them as the backbone of the country’s national security, highlighting that their sacrifices are crucial to the well-being and safety of the nation.

“To the brave men and women of the Ghana Police Service, I urge you to give your fullest cooperation to your new leader. You are the backbone of our national security framework. Your dedication and sacrifices keep our country safe.

“Know that the government is committed to providing you with the necessary resources, training, and reforms to enable you to carry out your duties effectively,” he added.

George Akuffo Dampare has been succeeded by Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who brings years of expertise to the police service.
