Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Presidency, Kofi Okyere-Darko (KOD), has emphasised that the Mahama administration is committed to ensuring that all creatives can benefit from their work and avoid financial struggles in their later years.

In an interview with TV3 released on March 14, 2025, KOD expressed that the government is focused on improving copyright laws and royalty collection to safeguard the livelihoods of creatives.

Highlighting instances where President Mahama has supported ailing creatives, KOD emphasised that the government is determined to make huge changes in the sector, ensuring no creative dies poor.

“We’re very interested in the area of changing the narrative in terms of copyright in this country. And in the next four years, we’re looking at seeing some major changes in that area. Our musicians, for instance, are not supposed to die poor. Not just our musicians; composers, actors and what have you.

“His Excellency has a very personal relationship with especially the actors and some musicians as well. Very often, whenever people have been sick, you’d personally see him at their houses, supporting them financially and all that. So now that we’re back and in office, it’s a great time for us to affect the creative space and the entire orange economy in a very special way,” he said.

KOD was appointed on February 26, 2025.

He adds to the list of other prominent creatives, including John Dumelo, Abeiku Santana, and Kafui Danku, who are working to reshape the creative industry under the John Dramani Mahama administration.
