Jamaican dancehall musician, Kranium, has jumped to the defence of Ghanaian afro-dancehall musician, Stonebwoy, after the latter faced heavy criticism for performing on DJ AG Online’s set in London.
Stonebwoy, known for his global recognition and contribution to African dancehall, was seen performing some of his hit songs on the streets of London with DJ AG in a video that went viral in the first week of March.
But while a lot of people lauded his performance and commended him for taking Ghanaian dancehall music to the international front, others were disappointed and felt the platform was beneath his status as an already established global act.
Critics argued that DJ AG’s platform is mainly reserved for rising acts, insinuating that Stonebwoy’s performance wasn’t needed and undermined his stature as one of Africa’s leading music exports.
Netizens have since expressed dissatisfaction, stating that Stonebwoy was too big for such a performance.
However, Kranium has shut down the naysayers.
Taking to X, he expressed discontent with those who failed to understand the significance of Stonebwoy’s performance.
“The idiots who don’t understand the reason why Stonebwoy is in the middle of the city performing in the UK are the ones who don’t understand the purpose!! The man is pushing Ghana dancehall across the world!” Kranium stated.
Meanwhile, several well-known musicians have recently embraced DJ AG’s platform to engage with grassroots audiences and reach a new market.
Notably, Nigerian rapper, Odumodublvck, was also seen performing on the same platform just a few days after Stonebwoy’s performance, but received praise for his effort.
