Ghanaian musician Pappy Kojo has drawn comparisons between Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior and legendary striker Asamoah Gyan following Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Vinícius Júnior missed a crucial penalty during the game, failing to secure Real Madrid’s qualification in regulation time.

Reacting to the incident, the hip-hop artist took to X (formerly Twitter), posting a tweet implying that Vinícius and Gyan share similar traits.

“Vini & Asamoah Gyan,” he wrote, captioning a popular meme of former South African President Jacob Zuma making a gesture with his fingers, suggesting that the two are the same.

His tweet referenced Gyan’s infamous penalty miss against Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup quarterfinals.

The former Sunderland striker squandered a last-minute spot-kick, leading to Ghana’s elimination in the subsequent penalty shootout.

However, unlike Gyan’s case, Vinícius’ miss did not prove costly, as Real Madrid ultimately won the tie on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate draw.
