The outrage over Jamie Carragher’s comments on the Africa Cup of Nations continues to grow. Adding his voice to the criticism is former Black Stars defender Samuel Osei Kuffour.
Amid the backlash, debates over football legacies surfaced when Joey Barton claimed that Carragher had a better career than every African defender.
However, speaking to Sporty TV, the 2001 Champions League winner did not hold back in his criticism of Carragher, questioning his status among football’s greats.
“What has he achieved? Do you think anyone would name their son after him as a role model? If Jamie Carragher went to Italy, would he have had the chance to play for Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Bayern Munich? No way.
“Honestly, has he ever won a Man of the Match award in his career? Has he ever been selected as the best player in the league or in Europe? Even Team of the Week?” Kuffour questioned.
He further argued that without Carragher’s Liverpool roots, he might not have had the opportunity to play for the club and, therefore, should leave the discussions to the best defenders.
“What has Jamie Carragher achieved? If he wasn’t born in Liverpool, he wouldn’t have had the chance to play for Liverpool. Ferdinand and Terry are the ones who should be talking, not Carragher,” he added.
