King Charles has once again surprised music lovers with the release of his personal playlist to mark Commonwealth Day.

This year’s selection has sparked quite a buzz in Ghana, especially with the inclusion of the legendary musician Daddy Lumba.

The Playlist, which happens to be part of The King’s Music Room, a special one-off show on Apple Music 1, was recorded at Buckingham Palace.

While the playlist features global icons like Beyoncé with Crazy in Love and Kylie Minogue’s The Loco-Motion, what has caught many off guard in Ghana is Daddy Lumba’s classic Mpempem Do Me taking the seventh spot on the 17-song lineup.

What makes this even more intriguing is the fact that Mpempem Do Me is sung entirely in Twi, a Ghanaian language, making its appearance on the King’s playlist a delightful shock to many.
The choice has left fans and critics alike wondering how the song not only made the cut but also claimed such a prominent position.

Daddy Lumba’s inclusion highlights the King’s appreciation for diverse musical styles and cultures, further solidifying the influence of Ghanaian highlife music on the global stage.

    Here’s the full playlist:

    1. Bob Marley & The Wailers – Could You Be Loved

    2. Millie Small – My Boy Lollipop

    3. Kylie Minogue – The Loco-Motion

    4. Al Bowlly – The Very Thought of You
