Lisa Quama, a member of the DWP group, has explained why female dancers have developed a sudden interest in wearing men’s outfits in the industry.

In an interview with Delay on March 8, 2025, Lisa Quama noted that the inspiration behind their sudden interest in menswear is to receive recognition in the dance industry in Ghana.

She explained that dancing is a job done by mostly men, therefore in other to change the narrative, they adopted a masculine fashion style in other to stay confident.

“Our dance style was only dominated by men and we wanted to change that narrative. So, it was only in DWP that they used to show us dancers internationally who can do Afro dance well. You can do that with feminine energy, you have to be more confident in your kind of dance which is what pushes this style.” she said.

When asked why she prefers to dress in men’s outfits, Lisa Quama established that she does not feel comfortable with clothes that reveal her skin.

“I am offended because I am not part of the brotherhood. I can dress like a woman. I don’t dress like a boy I only put on unisex clothes. I am not comfortable in dresses that reveal my skin therefore you give me clothes that will cover my body and I would wear that every day of my life. But I dance every day too,” she added.
