Police set to arrest persons abusing drugs Police set to arrest persons abusing drugs

The Ho Municipal Police Command has expressed deep concern over the rising abuse of drugs among the youth in the municipality.

Speaking to a group of students after a health walk organized by the Municipal Education Directorate as part of Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations, Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Jeremiah Alale, described the situation as alarming and a threat to society.

His comments come just weeks after a violent clash between students of Sokode Senior High Technical School and local youth, which resulted in the destruction of properties.

Reports suggest that some individuals involved in the incident were allegedly under the influence of drugs.

In response, Superintendent Alale announced plans for a police crackdown on drug abuse, warning the youth to desist from using substances such as cocaine, marijuana, and excessive alcohol or face the full force of the law.

Meanwhile, Ho Municipal Education Director, Dr. Esther Yeboah-Adzimah, has also raised concerns about the dangers of drug abuse, warning that if left unchecked, it could jeopardize the future of young people.

She stressed that schools must remain centres of learning, growth, and positive development, adding that rising hooliganism is a growing challenge in the education sector.

Dr. Yeboah-Adzimah further urged students to be ambassadors of peace and create a conducive learning environment that promotes academic excellence.
