The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, as part of his ‘good neighborliness’ tour to countries in the sub-region, visited Mali on March 8, 2025.

This phase of the tour will take him to Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, who have left the ECOWAS grouping and formed their Alliance of Sahel states.

The president, while in Mali, held a closed-door meeting with transitional president General Goita at the presidential palace.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okaudzeto Ablakwa, commenting on the visit described it as successful.

His comments shared via social media read “President John Mahama’s working visit to Mali today was exceptionally successful. We are grateful to Head of State, Assimi Goïta for his warm and brotherly hospitality. President Mahama will continue to serve as a bridge for peace, stability, unity and prosperity on the African continent. Africa shall triumph”.
