Nigerian footballer Odion Ighalo has opened up on his strong connection to God, detailing that he is a staunch Christian.

The former Watford striker asserts that he is a firm believer in God and has been consistent with the payment of his tithes since he was 16 years old.

According to him, the pastor in charge of the church he attended briefed him thoroughly about the essence of paying tithes as a Christian and how it contributes to one’s growth in life.

The former Manchester United player indicated that his first salary while playing for a club named Julius Berger in Nigeria in 2005 was ₦15,000 and he allocated a percentage of that amount for tithe.

“My first salary when I was playing for Julius Berger in 2005 was ₦15,000. I was 16 years old then. My pastor taught me about tithing, and since then, I have never missed paying my tithe,” he said, as shared by YabaLeftOnline on X.

Ighalo currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al-Wehda, scoring five goals in 23 appearances in the 2024/2025 season.
