The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has expressed concerns over the growing adoption of foreign lifestyles that undermine Ghanaian cultural values.

According to her, practices such as provocative dressing, explicit music lyrics that promote immorality, and unfiltered media content pose a threat to the nation’s moral foundation and must be discouraged.

In an exclusive interview with Graphic Showbiz, Houadjeto called on Ghanaians to embrace their cultural heritage and resist influences that conflict with traditional values.

She urged media organisations to take greater responsibility for the content they produce, emphasising the need to prioritise materials that reflect and uphold Ghanaian traditions.

“I believe we have adopted too much of the Western style. We must also be intentional about streamlining the kind of content we put out.

“I think it’s important to consider how we dress and the aspects of foreign lifestyles we have adopted that do not align with Ghanaian values. The industry is broad and vast, so we will take it a step at a time. I believe that by doing so, we will go a long way in supporting the industry and making gains by embracing our roots,” she said.

Additionally, she called on musicians, filmmakers, and content creators to exercise greater care in their work, ensuring that their creations do not promote behaviors that contradict the country’s moral and cultural principles.

“The media has a huge influence on the minds of our youth, and if we keep glorifying inappropriate dressing, reckless utterances, and music that lacks moral depth, we risk losing our identity as a people. It is time for us to celebrate what is truly Ghanaian and be proud of our heritage,” she added.

She called on stakeholders to take action to strengthen the country’s cultural identity and ensure that younger generations are raised with values that reflect Ghana’s rich traditions.
