Ghana’s fashion industry is rich with creativity and potential, but according to AE Jones, Chief Operating Officer of Fashion Souk Global, unlocking greater success requires boldness, strategic investment, and a global outlook.

Speaking ahead of the Fashion Souk Global Exhibition on March 8 and 9 at the Palms Convention Centre at La Palm Hotel, Jones urged Ghanaian designers to push beyond local markets and take charge of their craft.

“Be fearless, be bold. Don’t be passive about your skill—own it, be unapologetic about it. Don’t limit yourself to Accra or Ghana alone. The virtual world offers limitless opportunities, and designers should test the waters, even with small steps,” she advised.

While impressed by the remarkable strides in the local industry, Jones believes investment from the government and industry leaders is crucial for sustaining long-term growth.

“It would be great to see those who have already made it pave the way for upcoming designers. The talent is there, but funding is crucial. Government and private sector support could help nurture the industry, making it globally competitive,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Jones, who has followed Ghana’s fashion evolution, praised the industry’s transformation, particularly the modernization of Kente and the rise of ready-to-wear collections.

“I didn’t realize Ghana had so many designers until I started shopping local brands years ago. The craftsmanship in beaded work, bags, and accessories is extraordinary. Ghanaian designers are truly making an impact,” she noted.

With the launch of Fashion Souk Global in Accra, the two-day event will provide a platform for over 90 exhibitors in fashion, beauty, and food, fostering collaboration between local and international brands.

Attendees can explore exclusive shopping opportunities for unique African fashion and beauty products, engage in networking sessions, and discover business prospects within the industry—all in a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates the best of African entrepreneurship.

The event, which is free to attend, also marks the start of International Women’s Week, celebrating the role of fashion in culture and economic empowerment.
