Qatar Charity, an international non-governmental organization, has commissioned the newly refurbished mosque at the 37 Military Hospital.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Friday, was attended by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, who served as the guest of honor.

Other dignitaries present included the Commander of the 37 Military Hospital, Brigadier General Prosper Ayibor, and the Director General of Religious Affairs, Brigadier General Kumi-Woode, who commenced the event.

The refurbishment project transformed the mosque into a state-of-the-art religious facility.

It now features a 600-square-meter mosque with an office and ten ablution rooms, a 141-square-meter three-classroom Qur’an memorization center with an office, a 50-square-meter Imam’s residence, a mechanized borehole, a 45-square-meter mortuary with a washroom, a 4-square-meter power house, and a 1,700-square-meter stamped concrete compound.

Additionally, a large gate for vehicular entry, a smaller pedestrian gate, and a beautifully designed horticultural landscape were added for aesthetic appeal.

Speaking at the event, the Director General of Religious Affairs, Brigadier General Prosper Ayibor, expressed his delight at the commissioning of the facility, emphasizing its significance for the military personnel, civilian staff, hospital clients, and visitors.

“It is with great honor that I receive this magnificent edifice as a place of worship for the troops of the 37 Military Hospital, defense personnel, civilian staff, families, and the visiting public. The Department of Moral and Religious Affairs is entrusted with providing spiritual and moral support to all troops, and this mosque will play a crucial role in fulfilling that mandate,” he stated.

On behalf of the military high command, Brigadier General Ayibor expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity, One Ummah Ghana, and all other donors for their generous support.

He assured them that the facility would be well maintained and serve its intended purpose.

The Country Director of Qatar Charity, Hasan Ali Owda, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation and dedication that ensured the project’s success.

He commended the hospital authorities and the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces for their swift response and support, which allowed Qatar Charity to contribute to the reconstruction of the 37 Military Hospital mosque.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly to make this project possible, including the staff of Qatar Charity present at this occasion. This mosque stands as a symbol of unity and community, and we are honored to be part of this transformation,” Owda remarked.

The representative of One Ummah Ghana, Terek Merabi, on behave of the Ummah and other philanthropist who supported the project extended his gratitude to all those who play several roles to make the project successful, especially the attention and cooperation that the military command gave to the project was quite profound and motivating for all those who participated towards the success of the project.

In his keynote address, the guest of honor, Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yaku, highlighted the importance of the newly refurbished mosque as a spiritual sanctuary for military personnel and their families.

“This mosque stands as a beacon of faith, unity, and spiritual solace. As a military institution, we recognize that strength is not only measured by the might of our weapons or the strategy of our operations but also by the resilience of our spirits and the faith that binds us together. In times of peace and adversity, it is our faith that provides us with comfort, direction, and a sense of purpose,” he stated.

Vice Admiral Yaku further noted the significance of the mosque’s completion on the eve of Ramadan.

“It gives me great joy that Muslim personnel and their families here will begin their Ramadan fasting in this newly refurbished mosque, equipped with modern facilities to seek more favor and blessings from Allah,” he added.

He also described the refurbishment as both a reconstruction and an enhancement, making the experience of worship significantly better than before.

He expressed gratitude to Qatar Charity, One Ummah Ghana, and all other local and international contributors who made the project a reality.

“The Ghana Armed Forces remains a professional institution built on the principles of discipline, inclusivity, mutual respect, and religious diversity. This mosque is not just a place of worship but a testament to the belief that unity in diversity is our strength,” he concluded.

Former Ambassador to Egypt and retired Chief Imam of the Ghana Armed Forces, His Excellency Lieutenant Colonel Ummar Sanda Ahmed, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration between Qatar Charity and the military leadership.

He emphasized that the mosque’s redesign and expansion would serve not only the hospital community but also the surrounding areas.

“This mosque symbolizes more than just a place of worship; it represents community, unity, and shared faith. The idea of a mosque as a center of togetherness has been beautifully captured in its design. May Allah abundantly reward Qatar Charity for their generosity,” he said.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by several high-profile military officers, including Commissioner of Customs and Director of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Brigadier General Ayorogo; Deputy Chief Staff Officer for Policy and Plans at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Yahuza Salifu; Director General of Medical and Dental Services, Brigadier General Appiah; and Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Brigadier General Salifu Fuseini, among others.

The successful refurbishment and handover of the 37 Military Hospital Mosque reflect Qatar Charity’s commitment to supporting religious and community development projects.

The new facility is expected to serve as a center for worship, learning, and spiritual growth for military personnel and the broader community.

With its modern facilities and enhanced infrastructure, the mosque is now poised to be a place of peace, reflection, and unity, reinforcing the values of faith and service among all who worship there.
