Asempa FM have officially suspended sports journalist E.K. Wallace following a controversial account of the murder of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley.

Programs Manager Philip Osei Bonsu announced the decision while appearing on Adom TV’s sports show Fire for Fire.

“The presenter in question, E.K. Wallace, has been taken off air for the duration of the internal investigation,” he stated.

He added that management has engaged the Ghana Premier League giants to find a resolution to the matter.

He also expressed the radio station’s willingness to cooperate with and assist the police in any investigation they intend to carry out.

E.K. Wallace, while providing detailed information on the trending murder case during his Sports Nite show on February 27, 2025, claimed that Nana Pooley was stabbed in a ghetto and not at the stadium.

The Asempa FM journalist alleged that there was a misunderstanding between Pooley and the main suspect, Braimah, who became furious and ended up stabbing Pooley.

“Per my investigations, Pooley went to a particular area, also known as a ghetto, for a conversation with some friends at Nsoatre. During the discussions, a dispute unrelated to football arose. In the heat of the moment, tempers flared, and Braimah allegedly stabbed Pooley. A tricycle owner named Sunsum was taking him to the hospital, and on their way, Pooley saw the ambulance at the stadium and decided to stop to receive medical attention.

“Unfortunately, due to excessive bleeding, he shortly collapsed and died. Following the police arrests, Sunsum reported himself to the police to narrate what actually happened, so the police and some football officials are aware, hence the recent silence on the case. It is part of the reason Kotoko agreed to return to the Ghana Premier League,” he narrated.

However, his account appeared to contradict that of Asante Kotoko, who issued a statement indicating that Wallace’s narration was meant to distort the investigation of the incident.

The club further announced that they have boycotted the radio station, while Pooley’s family has invoked curses on the journalist following the denigrating report.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service are yet to conclude its investigations, as some suspects have been arrested. The prime suspect, Brimah, remains at large.

Pooley’s funeral will be held on March 6, 2025. The Ghana Premier League, which has been suspended since the incident, will resume on March 7, 2025.
