The Ashanti Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament (MPs) has denied claims that the Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, suffered a heavy defeat in its leadership elections.

In a statement issued by its secretary, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, who is MP for Old Tafo, the Ashanti NPP Caucus refuted reports that the leadership election was biased in favour of Dr. Ayew Afriye.

The statement clarified that the Effiduase-Asokore legislator, who served as the middle-belt campaign coordinator for the NPP in the 2024 election, neither participated in the election nor campaigned for a position.

“Contrary to reports, the claim that Hon. Nana Ayew Afriye garnered only eight (8) votes is not only misleading but also factually inaccurate. The actual vote count does not reflect this assertion, and any attempt to portray such figures is a deliberate effort to misinform the public.

“It is entirely false to suggest that Hon. Nana Ayew Afriye was present at the election, campaigned, or solicited votes based on his affiliation with Dr. Bawumia. The reality is that he was not in attendance at the said meeting or election,” parts of the statement read.

The statement further emphasized, “More importantly, he had formally communicated to the Interim Management Committee ahead of the event that he was not interested in contesting for any leadership position. Any claims to the contrary are a complete fabrication aimed at misleading the public.”

The caucus reiterated its commitment to ensuring that its internal elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
