Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has advised President John Dramani Mahama to scrap some of the luxurious entitlements enjoyed by government appointees while in office.

He pointed out that Ministers of State and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of various state institutions benefit from luxuries such as V8 vehicles, saloon cars, pickup trucks, and other perks provided to facilitate their work.

As a member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative, Kpebu emphasized that eliminating some of these luxuries would help the nation save money for other critical government expenditures.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on February 22, 2025, Kpebu urged President Mahama to consider this move, as Ghanaians continue to struggle with the country’s economic downturn.

“If someone gets an appointment, the luxuries are just too much. You call it public service, but where is the service when they receive a V8, a saloon car, and a pickup? People who previously had mini cars suddenly have multiple V8s at their disposal, yet we fail to see any real service.

“So, President Mahama, the conditions of service for ministers and CEOs are excessive compared to those of ordinary citizens. The average Ghanaian is struggling, and it’s shocking that, as a nation, we still can’t feed ourselves. People are begging for money to buy food; the situation is unbearable. We need President Mahama to address this,” he stated.

Kpebu’s comments come amid growing concerns about the deteriorating state of Ghana’s economy, which is placing an increasing financial burden on citizens.
