Media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has criticized President John Dramani Mahama over his recent asset declaration.

According to her, the president’s declaration is “useless” because the details are not made public and are only accessible to the institution responsible.

She argued that President Mahama should have amended the law to allow Ghanaians to access the records and know the exact properties government officials own, ensuring accountability.

Speaking on Okay FM, Vim Lady expressed her agreement with former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo’s call for asset declarations to be made public.

“The asset declaration President Mahama did is useless; even Domelevo has said that. How can you declare it without making it public for Ghanaians to know the details? You’re just telling us that you’ve done it. When you declare your assets, we want to know the specifics how many cars, houses, shoes, or clothes you have.

“That’s why Domelevo advised the president to amend the law to make asset declarations public, allowing Ghanaians to access the properties declared,” she said.

The outspoken journalist also referenced the United States system, where asset declaration records are made public, allowing citizens to track them.

She further noted that both major political parties in Ghana, the NPP and NDC, are unlikely to implement such a change since it serves their interests.

“In the US, that’s what they do you can check the records and keep track. Both NPP and NDC won’t do it because it benefits them,” she added.

This criticism follows President Mahama’s public signing of asset declaration documents on February 18, 2025.

He also instructed all government appointees to declare their assets by March 31, 2025, warning that failure to comply would result in punishment.
