The Majority Leader of Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has informed Parliament that President John Dramani Mahama will be in the legislative house on Thursday, February 27, 2025, to deliver a State of the Nation Address.

Reading the Order of Business for the week ending Friday, February 28, 2025, the Majority Leader said the address by the president will be in line with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.

“Mr. Speaker, let me announce to the House that His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama, will be in the House on Thursday, 27th of February, 2025, in accordance with Article 67 of the Constitution, to deliver a State of the Nation Address,” he announced.

The Majority Leader also announced some security arrangements for the event.

The State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Ghana is an annual speech delivered by the President of the Republic to Parliament, as mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.

This article requires the president to provide a “Message on the State of the Nation” at the beginning of each parliamentary session and before the dissolution of Parliament, outlining the country’s economic, social, and political condition.

The SONA serves as a platform for the president to reflect on the government’s achievements, address challenges, and present policy priorities for the year ahead, while also fostering accountability and national dialogue.

The address on Thursday will be the first State of the Nation Address delivered by President Mahama after he assumed office on January 7, 2025.
