A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) national communication team, George Ayisi, has criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for supposedly overstepping its legal boundaries.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta wanted.

Addressing the media, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng indicated that Ofori-Atta is wanted over alleged corruption and corruption-related activities.

“Ofori-Atta is now a wanted person and must return to Ghana immediately to face questioning,” the Special Prosecutor stated.

Speaking on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed, Ayisi argued that the OSP lacks the authority to declare anyone a fugitive. “The OSP was wrong. The law establishing the OSP’s office gives him the power to investigate and prosecute. He doesn’t have adjudicative authority,” Ayisi stated.

He emphasized that once the OSP concludes an investigation and establishes a prima facie case, prosecution should follow in court.

“When he makes investigations and he’s convinced that he has established a prima facie case or he has a case to prosecute, then he goes to court. He doesn’t have any adjudicative powers to declare anyone a fugitive.”
