The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak (MP), has announced the imposition of a curfew in Walewale and its surrounding areas in the North East Region, effective today, Saturday, February 15, 2025.

The curfew, which runs from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, was enacted on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council and through an Executive Instrument.

The decision comes amid growing security concerns in the region.

In a statement issued in Accra, the government called on the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and residents of Walewale to exercise restraint and pursue non-violent means to address the challenges facing the area.

The statement emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the community.

Additionally, the government has imposed a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Walewale and its environs. Anyone found violating this ban will face arrest and prosecution.

The move is part of broader efforts to restore calm and prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.

The Minister for the Interior urged all stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to ensure the success of these measures.

The curfew and arms ban are expected to remain in place until further notice, as the government works to address the underlying issues affecting the area.

Residents are advised to adhere to the curfew hours and comply with the new regulations to avoid any legal consequences. Security forces have been deployed to enforce the measures and maintain order in Walewale.

    Signed:

    Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak (MP)

    Minister for the Interior
