Saint Osei is a member of the GFA’s Safety and Security Committee
A member of the Ghana Football Association‘s (GFA) Safety and Security Committee, Saint Osei, has defended DCOP Lydia Donkor’s recent revelation regarding the circumstances surrounding the death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.
According to Osei, her statement was intended to improve security at stadiums.
Following Pooley’s tragic death on February 2, 2025, the GFA tasked DCOP Donkor, Chairperson of its Security Committee, with leading investigations to ensure justice was served.
However, DCOP Donkor faced criticism from the public after stating in an interview that Pooley had been fatally stabbed outside the stadium—contrary to earlier reports suggesting the incident occurred inside.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Osei defended Donkor, explaining that her statement was based on evidence from witnesses, including Asante Kotoko officials.
He emphasized that clarifying the exact location of the stabbing was crucial for improving future security measures at stadiums.
“DCOP Lydia Donkor’s clarification helps the police make proper security deployments within and outside stadiums to ensure that supporters’ lives are safe,” Osei said.
“It’s not proper to come after Lydia Donkor because she spoke based on intel gathered.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service have arrested at least six suspects as investigations continue in an effort to bring the perpetrators to justice.
