A member of the Ghana Football Association‘s (GFA) Safety and Security Committee, Saint Osei, has disclosed that some Asante Kotoko officials attested to the fact that Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley, was stabbed outside the stadium at the Nana Konamansah Park in Nsoatre.

He explained that witnesses from Kotoko and other suspects the committee interrogated about the incident said that Pooley was indeed stabbed outside the stadium.

The GFA Security and Safety Committee member mentioned Aduku, Akuriga, David Kwadwo Sakapa, and Baba Iddi as some of the witnesses from Kotoko who made the claims.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Osei clarified that Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor’s claim about Pooley being stabbed outside the stadium was factual.

“Witnesses from Kotoko, including Aduku, Akuriga, David Kwadwo Sakapa, Baba Iddi, and others, can attest that Madam [DCOP Donkor] did not speak out of a vacuum.

“Ghana police investigation basically centers on criminality and then GFA’s own has to do with arrangements and ensuring that certain incidents do not occur so we shouldn’t confuse the two, he said.

This comes after some Kotoko fans and a section of the public criticized DCOP Donkor for claiming Pooley was stabbed outside the stadium, allegedly to vindicate the police.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service have arrested some persons believed to be involved in the chaotic incident that led to the demise of the Asante Kotoko supporter.

Pooley was stabbed during Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman on February 2, 2025.
