To enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of President John Dramani Mahama’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, Justice Abdulai, a law lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has recommended the establishment of a specialized team within the Attorney General’s office to oversee and manage cases.

During his 2024 election campaign, President Mahama pledged to investigate all possible corruption cases as part of his broader effort to restore accountability, and as such, set up the ORAL team to oversee the initiative.

On Monday, February 10, 2025, he received the final report from the ORAL Committee and promptly directed the Attorney General’s office to take action on the cases presented.

Amid discussions on whether to establish new courts and tribunals specifically for these cases, Justice Abdulai, speaking on TV3’s New Day, disagreed with the ORAL team’s recommendation, arguing that a dedicated unit within the Attorney General’s office would be a more effective approach.

“What I strongly recommend is forming a specialised team within the Attorney General’s office that focuses solely on these cases. This team should include tax experts, financial analysts, and auditors to ensure thorough investigations.

“I don’t think setting up new courts is the right approach. If that were the case, I would instead advocate for a comprehensive upgrade — more equipment, additional judges, and increased resources to strengthen the judiciary,” he added.

Justice Abdulai emphasised the need for meticulous investigations and due diligence in handling these cases, stressing that a well-equipped team would be crucial in ensuring the proper delivery of justice.
