It is rare in Ghana’s Fourth Republic for the Appointments Committee to reject cabinet nominees.

Such rejections usually point to significant issues that the committee, which is in charge of assessing the credentials and skills of candidates for their potential positions, cannot ignore.

According to GhanaWeb, Reverend Dr. Kwesi Owusu Bi became the sole nominee to be completely turned down by the committee.

Alban Bagbin was among the members of the majority vote led by Freddie Blay that rejected then-President John Agyekum Kufuor’s 2007 nomination for the post of Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry.

When asked if he would appeal the committee’s decision, he mentioned that he needed to understand the procedures better before deciding.

Dr. Owusu Bi announced plans to hold a press conference to clarify his position and assert his integrity, insisting that he did not lie to the committee and that he would provide evidence to support his claims.

He expressed disappointment that the committee relied on external information rather than his testimony.
