Popular Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo has reaffirmed his dedication to the creative arts sector in Ghana, despite his new roles as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister.

Speaking at the launch of gospel artiste Celestine Donkor’s 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, in Accra, Dumelo praised Celestine Donkor‘s contributions to the music industry and reiterated his commitment to supporting the creative arts.

He emphasised that even though he now serves as the MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, he would never forget his roots in the creative arts sector.

“Even though I am now an MP and part of the Agric Ministry, I will never forget where I came from, the arts sector. I will always be a creative person. If we don’t develop our own, who else will do it for us?” he stated.

He also underscored the economic importance of the creative industry, pointing out that it is often underestimated.

“Some people disregard the arts economy. When we are all stressed, we listen to songs, watch movies, read or watch skits. It’s all part of life. The arts economy is important, and we must all make sure to support it,” he added.

Prior to John Dumelo’s appointment, many had speculated that he might be given a ministerial role in the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, due to his background in the entertainment industry.

However, Dumelo, who has also been actively involved in agriculture for years and has encouraged the youth to explore opportunities in the sector, found his appointment as the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture.
