President Mahama and Richard Ahiagba President Mahama and Richard Ahiagba

The National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has called out President John Dramani Mahama over his supposed silence on the demise of Kumasi Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.

According to him, President Mahama’s failure to publicly comment on the issue days after the tragic incident is worrying, considering the impact of the issue on football in the country.

The National Communications Director of the NPP noted that if former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had done the same, there would be vehement public criticisms against him.

Ahiagbah called on the president to prioritize the case and at least address the issues to console the bereaved family.

“H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, has not said a word for 72 hours and counting after Francis Yaw Frimpong, alias Pooley, was killed in cold blood after a football match in Nsoatre in the Bono Region.

“Why is the president silent on a matter that threatens football and security in Ghana? The media would be up in arms if Akufo-Addo were president. President Mahama must prioritize all citizens and show care for Francis Yaw Frimpong,” he wrote on X.

He made these comments after Pooley was fatally stabbed during a melee at a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman and Kotoko on February 2, 2025.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have banned Nsoatreman from using their home venue and initiated a probe into the violent incident.
