In a bold move to advocate for greater recognition of collective artistry, Ghanaian music twin duo, Lali X Lola, have penned a petition to the board of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

The petition calls for the reinstatement of the Best Performing Group Category, which has been absent from the awards scheme in recent years.

The duo emphasised the importance of celebrating the collaborative efforts of music groups that have been instrumental in shaping the industry’s growth.

The petition highlighted the resurgence of music groups in Ghana, with acts like Dope Nation, Keche, Team Eternity, and Bhad Mayors making waves with chart-topping hits and electrifying performances.

“We believe that reinstating the Best Performing Group Category would serve as a powerful recognition of this creative momentum and further encourage unity, collaboration, and innovation among artists.

“This category has historically celebrated the strength of teamwork and creativity, and its absence leaves a critical gap in recognizing the full scope of Ghanaian music excellence,” their petition read.

Lali X Lola argued that the absence of the Best Performing Group Category overlooks the significant impact these collectives have on the industry.

They stressed that reinstating the category would not only honor teamwork and creativity but also inspire greater collaboration and innovation among artistes.

“We humbly urge the Telecel Ghana Music Awards Board to consider bringing back this essential category for the 2025 edition and beyond.

“We are confident that doing so will inspire greater creativity and engagement within the industry while strengthening the rich cultural legacy of Ghanaian music,” the statement concluded.
