Hailey Bieber‘s makeup brand has been called out over a major allergen present in its new lip liners.
Rhode Peptide Lip Shape pencils, priced at $92 for a pack of four, contain fenugreek extract, which can trigger reactions among people with peanut allergies.
Rhode said in an Instagram story last week that the new lip liners do contain fenugreek extract, which ‘visibly enhances the look of lip volume’, per the post.
Fenugreek is also listed under ‘key ingredients’ on the product’s webpage, but it is not highlighted an allergen. DailyMail.com has contacted Rhode for comment.
Customers have flocked to Reddit to point out the red-flag ingredient. ‘Rhode’s new lip peptide liners are made with FENUGREEK EXTRACT!!’ one person wrote.
‘This is a legume apart of the peanut family and is common to be allergic if you have a peanut allergy!! I’m severely allergic to peanuts and realized a few years ago I was allergic to fenugreek.
‘I don’t feel it’s addressed loudly, although I appreciate Hailey adding it in the captions. Please let your nut allergy friends be aware!!’
‘I’m being high alert bc fenugreek has sent me to the hospital 2x!’ one person replied.

‘This should 10000000% have an explicit allergen notice on the website,’ another person said.
‘I have a tree nut allergy and have had a similar situation with products that have kukui nut in it (kind of on me but I thought it was a coconut situation) and a quick search shows most products with it contain an allergen disclaimer telling those with a tree nut allergy to avoid.
‘Please contact Rhode directly if you haven’t already, I’ll do so as well.’
‘Oh my gosh thank you so much, I could’ve killed my fiancé lmao,’ another person wrote.
It comes after previous Rhode lip products caused ‘stinging and burning’ reactions for some customers, who shared their worrying symptoms on TikTok in 2023.
One TikToker, called @GourdLord, said the lip product caused her face to redden and break out in hives. She demanded a ‘refund and better labeling’ on the box at the time.
Rhode’s TikTok comment sections were also flooded with complaints from customers who had suffered similar reactions.
One woman in the comments complained that she ‘went into anaphylactic shock’ and had to stay in hospital for 12 days after trying out the product.
On the FAQ section of Rhode’s website, the company noted at the time: ‘We do not currently use any added ingredients that appear on the FDA’s tree nut allergy list.
‘We do use other nut and seed oils, like babassu (Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil) and cupuaçu (Theobroma Grandiflorum Seed Butter) and work to fully convey this ingredient information through our packaging and website in accordance with applicable federal, state and local regulations.
‘Additionally, our products are not manufactured in a nut-free facility so there is always the very small possibility of cross-contamination with tree nuts.’

It comes amid rumors that Hailey, whose surname was Rhode before she married Justin Bieber, is due to expand the skincare and makeup company this year with a high profile move into retail.
The brand, which has so far been sold direct-to-consumer online, is set to hit the shelves of Sephora soon according to Puck.
Sources said the beauty retailer’s partnership with Hailey may have been delayed due to their existing relationship with Selena Gomez‘s wildly popular Rare Beauty.
However, another source claimed that there’s a ‘general reticence’ towards celebrity brands, which can make it difficult for stars to expand their lines into retail spaces.
Sephora already stocks Lady Gaga‘s Haus Labs, Rihanna‘s Fenty Beauty, Gwyneth Paltrow‘s Goop, and Pattern by Tracee Ellis Ross.
Rare Beauty is currently one of the biggest makeup brands in the beauty space and has helped bring Selena’s net worth up to an estimated $1.3 billion.
Hailey and Selena have been in a rumored years-long public feud over Justin Bieber, who dated Selena before moving on with Hailey – and then marrying her.
Selena – who is now engaged to music producer Benny Blanco – has previously urged her fans to stop directing negativity towards Hailey.
‘Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,’ Selena wrote on Instagram in 2023.
‘This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.’
The pair have done their best to shut down rumors of a feud, and even posed together for a photo in 2022.
