Ghanaian actor, Mikki Osei Berko, popularly known as Dada Boat, has opened up about growing up without his father, revealing that he met him for the first time at age 40.

Speaking on GhanaWeb’s Talkertainment show, Mikki told Elsie Lamar that while his father’s absence was due to certain circumstances, he harbors no resentment.

“I met my dad for the first time at age 40. I don’t say this to discredit him because he had his own issues at the time. He is still alive, and we are very close now. We bonded so well after we met,” he said.

The actor hopes his experience will encourage young people in similar situations, urging them not to let the absence of a parent define their future.

“This does affect lives, but if you stay focused, you can build your life with or without a parent,” he advised.

Reflecting on how his father’s absence shaped him, Mikki admitted it impacted his ability to navigate relationships.

“In relationships, there are things I struggled to understand that I could have learned by seeing my mom and dad together while growing up,” he shared.

He acknowledged the common belief that children raised by single parents may face challenges in their own marriages, saying he sometimes agrees with this perspective.

“When one parent is absent, it becomes difficult to grasp certain dynamics in relationships,” he noted.

Despite the challenges, he expressed gratitude for his journey and the lessons he has learned.

“I believe I could have been a better person if I had both parents living together peacefully. Their love affects you in many ways. I haven’t turned out too bad, but if I had learned certain things growing up, I could have been even better,” he reflected.
