President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku has issued a rallying cry to Ghanaians, urging them to unite behind the Black Stars following a major overhaul of the team’s management and technical staff.

The nation has been left reeling after the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but Okraku remains optimistic that, with collective support and determination, Ghana can return to footballing glory.

“With the announcement of both the management committee of the Black Stars and a revamped technical team, it’s now our time to truly be a Ghanaian and get behind our team once again,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Ghana, our beloved country, has gone through this challenging period before, but by sticking together, we always came out stronger. With humility, determination, and unity, we will bring smiles back to our people with your support.”

On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the GFA overhauled its technical team, appointing Winfried Anton Schäfer as Technical Advisor and Director of Football. Desmond Ofei, Kris Perquy, and Gregory De Grauwe have also joined the setup, while John Paintsil and Fatau Dauda retained their roles. However, Joseph Lauman has been let go.

Despite recent setbacks, Okraku is urging fans to rally behind the team as it embarks on a new chapter.

“Our players need you! Our players need us. It is time!” he added.

With the Black Stars still in contention for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the new technical team will now shift focus to the upcoming qualifiers in March 2025.
