Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie has delivered a damning verdict on the leadership of Kurt Okraku, asserting that it is time for the football community to acknowledge that Kurt Okraku has failed in his administration.

Speaking in an interview with Peace FM, Afriyie was asked about his potential role in the Ghana Football Association’s planned reforms.

In response, he expressed deep concerns about the current state of Ghanaian football, identifying Kurt’s leadership as a major issue.

According to Afriyie, if the GFA is to succeed in rebuilding Ghanaian football, Kurt Okraku and his administration will need support from other key stakeholders.

“I did an interview with Micheal Oduro on Metro TV, and he asked me—considering the current state of our football—what I could do to help. And I said, we all have to admit that Kurt has failed, and we all have to help him. That’s the reality, and that’s what you are asking me this morning as well,” he told Peace FM.

Kurt Okraku was first elected GFA president in October 2019 and was re-elected for a second term in October 2023.

However, his tenure has been plagued by setbacks, including Ghana’s back-to-back group stage exits at AFCON 2021 and 2023, as well as the Black Stars’ recent failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
