Kumasi Asante Kotoko jumped onto the summit of the Ghana Premier League, following their 1-0 win over struggling Karela United in their match day 18 game played at the Baba Yara Stadium yesterday.

Skipper Justice Blay scored from a spot kick on 63 minutes to hand the Porcupine Warriors their 10th victory of the season.

Karela made their intentions of carrying the day as early as the 1st minute with striker Abdul Basit testing the pulse of goalkeeper Mohammed Camara who committed a blunder but the striker failed to capitalise on it.

At the other side Kwame Poku drove home a shot whwich was dealt with by goalkeeper Abdul Ganiu Mohammed who drew some breath-taking saves to deny Kotoko a goal.

Karela’s Abdul Latif and Abdul Rahman Yaya probbed for a goal but the Kotoko backline of Joseph Ablorh and Samba O’Niel kept them at bay.

The game became a ding dong affair with both teams coming close to scoring but failed.

After a goalless first half, the second half continued on the same path as the first half, however, the Porcupine Warriors began to have some decent possession and on 62 minutes Winger Baba Yaya was adjudged to have been brought down in the box by Salifu Issah, Blay stepped up to scored from the spot.

Karela United pressed for the equaliser but Kotoko held firm to win the contest.
