Boris Johnson joined Donald Trump‘s inauguration ceremonies today – with Nigel Farage, Liz Truss and Priti Patel also in Washington.

The former PM was in church as the pomp of the handover swung into full gear, with the new president being sworn in this evening.

Mr Johnson forged a bond with Mr Trump during his last term in office, and has been a strong supporter.

Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg, the bosses of Amazon and Meta respectively, were both among the star-studded congregation.

But Keir Starmer is watching on TV after not receiving an invite to the events. Downing Street has stressed that is in keeping with convention, and Sir Keir will be visiting the US soon.

Mr Farage, Ms Truss, Ms Patel and Suella Braverman are among the prominent Brits who have been posting pictures of themselves in the US capital.

The PM sent his congratulations in a gushing statement overnight, insisting Transatlantic ties are built on ‘unshakeable foundations’ and hinting at a push for a trade deal.

But No10 was left having to play down claims that Italy now has the real ‘Special Relationship’ with the US, after Giorgia Meloni was invited.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy said this morning that Sir Keir is set to visit the US in the coming weeks, while there are claims senior Royals could be deployed on a tour to help foster relations.

But there are mounting concerns about the huge political gulf between Labour and the new White House. Rumours have been swirling that Mr Trump could punish Sir Keir for party activists going to the US to campaign for his Democrat rival Kamala Harris.

There have even been suggestions that the nomination of Lord Mandelson as the UK’s ambassador could be vetoed.
