The aide to the former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources has denied allegations circulating on social media and within political circles that $43 million was given to the former minister to dredge the Odaw River and make Accra the cleanest city in Africa.

In a statement, Mr. Kofi Mensah, the aide, categorically dismissed the allegation, describing it as baseless and a malicious attempt to tarnish her reputation and cause public disaffection for the former Member of Parliament.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources’ component of $42.2 million was allocated to the ministry, not the minister. Mr. Mensah reiterated that the ministry had the sole responsibility for disbursing the funds but the funds still sitting at the Ministry .

The funds were meant for solid waste management capacity improvement under the project known as the GARID Project. At the time Madam Dapaah left office, the procurement processes were still ongoing to engage consultants both locally and internationally.

Further clarifications and confirmations can be sought from the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.

It is also worth recalling that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) last year, after a series of investigations, cleared Madam Dapaah of corruption and corruption-related charges, reinforcing her integrity and commitment to public service.

Addressing rumors that Madam Dapaah has fled the country, her aide dismissed them as fabrications aimed at discrediting her. “Honorable Dapaah has not traveled out of the country in the last two years. Those who were in Kumasi last week may have seen her attending some funerals,” Mr. Mensah added.

The aide emphasized Madam Dapaah’s dedication to Ghana’s development and expressed disappointment over the continuous spread of false information about her. He cautioned that her name should not be dragged into baseless controversies.
