Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah arrived at the 2025 Presidential Inauguration in style. The legendary midfielder was clad in a white kaftan and a cap as he graced the occasion.

He was accompanied by friends and family, while drummers played enthusiastically behind him.

President-elect John Dramani Mahama will be sworn into office today, Tuesday, January 7, 2025, to begin his tenure as President of Ghana. His Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, will make history as Ghana’s first female Vice President—a milestone widely celebrated as a significant step toward gender equality in leadership.

Appiah played 68 times for Ghana, scoring 15 international goals. He retired on August 22, 2010. His final outing for Ghana was against Uruguay in the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup in July—a game that marked the end of a glorious career in which he led the Black Stars to two successive World Cup finals.
