Mawuli Wayo, the hero for Hearts of Oak on the afternoon of Sunday, December 29, 2024, commended the team’s resilience in their comeback victory.

He dismissed any suggestions that he was scared before the game against Accra Lions and confidently stated that a win for the Phobians was never in doubt.

Hearts of Oak had taken a commanding lead before halftime and appeared to be on track to secure all three points.

However, a spirited comeback from Accra Lions turned the game in their favour, resulting in a 2-1 score. Wayo then scored two goals in three minutes to secure the victory for Hearts of Oak.

During a post-match conference, Wayo shared how inspired he felt before entering the game.

Despite being minutes away from defeat, he maintained confidence in the team’s ability to emerge victorious.

“I feel great; it’s been an honor to come into the game and score, so I’m feeling amazing. I knew that we would come back, so I wasn’t afraid of the game. I knew we would surpass them, so I wasn’t afraid, and regardless, I knew we would earn the three points,” he said.

Wayo also mentioned that the win provided a significant confidence boost heading into the next round of fixtures in 2025 and extended his wishes for a happy new year to the Hearts of Oak fan base.

“These three points give us a lot of confidence for the next match, and I wish the fans a happy new year,” he added.

With this brace, the 21-year-old has now scored four goals for the Phobians in 11 Premier League games during the 2024/25 season.
