Former Ghana assistant coach George Boateng has reflected on his debut appearance at the World Cup in Qatar.

Boateng, who was part of Otto Addo’s staff during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has now shared his experience with Ghana at the tournament.

In an interview with Tribal Football, Boateng described it as a surreal moment and one of the highlights of his career.

“We qualified for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. It was unbelievable for me as a coach to be at the World Cup,” Boateng told Tribal Football.

“I really enjoyed that experience, and it made me realize why people speak so highly about tournaments like the World Cup.”

Although Ghana secured a win against South Korea, Boateng’s World Cup journey was short-lived as Ghana suffered a group-stage exit, picking up just three points from their three group games.

Boateng joined the coaching staff at Coventry City in the summer of 2024 but left the Sky Blues following Frank Lampard’s appointment.

As a player, Boateng enjoyed a stellar career, playing for top clubs like Feyenoord before making his mark in the English Premier League, where he represented Coventry City, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, and Hull City. His robust gameplay earned him a reputation as a tough-tackling, dependable midfielder.

Among the highlights of his career was leading Middlesbrough to their historic UEFA Cup final appearance in 2006, although they ultimately lost to Sevilla.
