Asante Kotoko continued their impressive form in the Ghana Premier League with a convincing 2-0 win over Bibiani Goldstars at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday night.

The victory marked Kotoko’s fourth consecutive league triumph and lifted them to second on the table, level on points with third-placed Goldstars and just three points behind the leaders.

Justice Blay opened the scoring for the Porcupine Warriors in the 18th minute, converting a penalty after Samba’s goal-bound header was blocked by a Goldstars defender’s hand.

Kotoko maintained their dominance throughout the first half, creating numerous chances while limiting Goldstars’ offensive threats.

The visitors’ task became even more difficult in the 36th minute when Bright Boakye Kyereh was sent off for a reckless challenge on Amidu.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Goldstars held their ground until the 74th minute, when Kwame Opoku produced a moment of brilliance to double Kotoko’s lead.

Opoku, starting for the first time since his return to Kotoko, showcased his quality with a well-placed effort that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

Earlier, the forward had nearly found the net with a spectacular mid-air header just before halftime, but his attempt lacked power.

Kotoko dominated possession with 51%, registering 14 goal attempts and seven shots on target, compared to Goldstars’ nine attempts and just two on target.

The hosts also won seven corners, while Goldstars managed only one.

The win solidifies Kotoko’s resurgence in the league as they inch closer to the top spot. With Opoku hitting form and the team firing on all cylinders, the Porcupine Warriors are positioning themselves as serious contenders in this season’s title race.
